What’s in my travel bag

Anyone that travels has acquired a series of gadgets, gotos and utility items that they have found to make life easier while on the road. This is a list of items that stay in my travel bag and that I have found to be very useful in one way or another during my travels. In some particular order.

  1. Sunland Microfiber Towel Ultra Compact Absorbent and Fast Drying Travel Sports Towels – Anyone that has read A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy knows that a towel is the most useful item an interstellar traveler can carry. This holds true even for humans simply traveling around the globe. I hook this towel on my bag using a nylon cord bracelet I received from one of my nephews. He made it, but it is similar to this. Hooking the towel on the outside of my bag makes it easily accessible when I need it to clean up a spill, wipe off some sweat, cover a dirty eating or sitting surface or dry off after getting out of the rain.
  2. Bose QuietComfort 20 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones – Great noise cancelling technology without the bulky over the ear form factor. They also include a built in mic to take conference calls. These work very well to block out noise while on a plane or to listen in on a conference call while in a busy airport. A little pricey, but definitely worth it for someone who travels regularly. I replaced some over the ear Audio-Technicas and am very pleased with the change. Extra earbuds for working out are also in the bag.
  3. EasyAcc 2nd Gen 10000mAh Power Bank Brilliant External Battery Pack – An external power pack is essential for anyone that is on the road. I never know when I will find an outlet and this 10,000mAh device can keep my phone, tablet and noise cancelling headphones powered until I reach an outlet. This has been a life saver when I’m late for a flight, jogging to security, my phone is dying and my boarding pass is on my phone. Two USB charging ports means I can charge my phone and any other device without issue. It also slides neatly into my coat or jeans back pocket when I’m not carrying a bag.
  4. One Wipe Charlies – Sometimes even men don’t feel so fresh. OWCs to help alleviate the funk. Not just for butts.
  5. Hi-mobiler High Speed (2pcs) 10ft USB 2.0 a Male to Micro B Data Charger Cable – That’s a mouth full, but the key description is “10ft”. Again, you never know where you’ll find a power outlet and you don’t want to be glued to a wall when you do find one. This 10ft charging cord has been very useful when I’m sitting in an airport lounge where the only power is on the wall 6 feet away. This length of cord ensures you are not holding up the wall like the kids at a middle school dance. Also helpful when in a hotel room with no power near the bed. Run the cable across the room and your phone/alarm can still be on the nightstand.
  6. Jetpack® MiFi® 6620L – Lifesaver when visiting a customer that expects you to deliver a webex for the remote employees, yet, they can’t get you on their guest wireless.
  7. Cable Matters Mini DisplayPort (Thunderbolt™ 2 Port Compatible) to HDMI/DVI/VGA Male to Female 3-in-1 Adapter – I carry a Surface Pro 3, which I am really happy with, and I suspect Mac users will have similar issues with their display ports. Again, this helps alleviate issues when having to present at a customer site. A lot of conference rooms only have VGA or HDMI connections to their projector. This 3-in-1 adapter ensures you can still display your screen via a mini-display port.
  8. 3M Easy-On Privacy Filter Screen – I’m no CIA agent, but I do work with some pretty high profile customers. Helps to ease concerns when working on confidential docs on a plane or other public place. – NOT SHOWN
  9. Logitech Wireless Presenter R400 –  Haven’t used this much, but the pointer has come in handy a few times.
  10. Some honorable mentions: [2-in-1] Inateck 3 Ports USB 3.0 Hub and RJ45 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet Hub Converter LAN Wired Network Adapter with a Built-in 1ft USB 3.0 Cable – Why not?
  11. Uni-ball Signo Dx 0.28 Um-151 Gel Ink Pen 10 Pcs (Black) – Still have to write.
  12. Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse – Black – Folds flat. Better than a touchpad.
  13. Airborne tablets – Help out your immune system.
  14. Alka Seltzer – Great for hangovers. So I’ve been told. – NOT SHOWN
  15. Passport – You never know.
  16. Burner phone – Keep this in your room. If you lose your primary, you still have a way to communicate.
  17. Anti-Bacterial Wipes – Wipe down arm rests, seat belts and trays on plane. And wherever else you may find filth.
  18. Dual charging power plug – Charge 2 USB powered devices with one outlet.
  19. Anti-bacterial gel
  20. Visine
